10-year-old sexually assaulted in Arunachal, neighbor held

Guwahati: A man in his forties has been arrested by police for alleged sexual assault of a minor girl in Lower Dibang Valley in Arunachal Pradesh.

Reportedly, the 10-year-old in her statement to police claimed that the accused has molested and raped her when her parents were not around. She said that she was raped multiple times by the culprit.

The incident came to light when the Roing Childline received an emergency call from Gamu village on Tuesday night, informing them that a child had been sexually exploited.

Soon, the childline team along with local police reached the site and conducted a rescue operation.

Following the operation, accused Opak Borang, who was also the victim’s neighbor was arrested by police and an FIR has also been lodged by the parents of the victim.

The accused later confessed to his crime and had been arrested under sections 6 and 10 of the POSCO Act enacted to protect children from sexual offenses.

Meanwhile, the childline and police team tried to put the minor victim in a childcare institute for some time so she could undergo counseling, but she refused and insisted to stay with her parents.
