1000 seats in MBBS degree increased annually in state: Sarma

Government has decided to provide reservation of five seats in the medical admission for the Koch and Rajbongshi community.

Guwahati: Assam heath minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday announced 1000 seats in MBBS degree will be increased annually in state.

Addressing a press meet in the city, Sarma also said that admission would be open for medical students in Diphu Medical College. He added that 100 more seats in the medical colleges will be increased in state.

However, these 100 seats will be spread to all the seven medical college in Assam.

Commenting on the pending declaration of tribal status, he said that government has decided to provide reservation of five seats in the medical admission for the Koch and Rajbongshi community.

Moreover, reservation of five seats for the Ahom and four seats for Chutia people will also be provided. But these reservations will be under the existing OBC quota, which recently was increased to 27%.
