A 13-year-old girl, who was missing from March 17th, 2019 from Mendal village of North Garo Hills, has been rescued by police from Guwahati on April 23rd, 2019. Police traced her mobile phone in Paltan Bazar area in the city and successfully rescued her.
North Garo Hills police said one person namely Rikkan Ch Sangma (23) of Aruak Songgitalgre had lured the minor away. “The suspect used to work as a labour in a construction company in Chennai, Tamil Nadu and was allegedly involved in petty crimes also. During course of investigation it was found that the suspect had visited Mendal village and the house of the girl before her disappearance, police said.
Police also said that Sangma was taken into custody and during interrogation reportedly revealed that he had handed the girl over to a client in Guwahati where she was being made to work in a small restaurant cleaning utensils.
North Garo Hills superintendent of police Sacheng Marak said well coordinated efforts from police, citizens and the use of technology helped to bring back the minor girl safely to her family.
