Fifteen noted personalities from the Northeast region will be honoured with the coveted Padma awards 2020. The Ministry of Home Affairs released the full list on the eve of 71st Republic Day.
While, World boxing champion MC Mary Kom will be conferred the country’s second-highest civilian award Padma Vibhushan, former Nagaland Chief Minister SC Jamir will be honoured with India’s third-highest civilian award Padma Bhushan and 13 other personalities have been named for the Padma Shri award for their distinguished services.

From Assam five personalities have been conferred the Padma Shri award and they are—celebrated Sattriya dancer Indira PP Bora, educationist Lil Bahadur Chettri, veterinarian Dr Kushal Konwar Sarma, historian Jogendra Nath Phukan and Dr Ravi Kannan R(medicine).ds
Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal took his Twitter handle to congratulate all the personalities from Assam on being awarded the Padma Shri. ‘Your exceptional work speak for itself. My best wishes’ he said.

The others from Northeast to get the Padma Shri awards are Oinam Bembem Devi (Manipur), Benichandra Jamatia (Tripura), C Kamlova (Mizoram), Sathyanarayan Mundayoor (Arunachal Pradesh), Tarundeep Rai (Sikkim), Pu Lalbiakthanga Pachuau(Mizoram), Yeshe Dorjee Thongchi(Arunachal Pradesh), Kong Trinity Saioo(Meghalaya).
Kong Trinity Saioo is a teacher and an enterprising farmer leading a workforce of 800 women who cultivate and export the world-famous Lakadong Turmeric from #Meghalaya. She is now a proud receipient of the #Padmashree award. I congratulate and commend her efforts for our farmers.

The Padma Awards are one of the highest civilian honours of India announced annually on the eve of Republic Day. The Awards are given in three categories: Padma Vibhushan (for exceptional and distinguished service), Padma Bhushan (distinguished service of higher-order) and Padma Shri (distinguished service). The award seeks to recognize achievements in all fields of activities or disciplines where an element of public service is involved.
