17 Trains Cancelled In Assam Amid Citizenship Bill Protests. Deets Inside

Train services across Assam were affected as picketers squatted on tracks

Normal life came to a halt in Assam’s Brahmaputra Valley due to a statewide bandh called by two students’ organizations in protest against the Citizenship (Amendment)Bill, which was passed by the Lok Sabha at midnight of December 9th, 2019.

The 11-hour shutdown on December 10th, 2019, called by the All Assam Students’ Union and the North East Students’ Organisation – an apex body of students’ unions in the region – turned into a veritable battle zone littered with burnt tyres in Brahmaputra Valley. However, it failed to evoke much impact on Bengali-dominated Barak Valley.

Train services across Assam were affected as picketers squatted on tracks. In view of indefinite rail roko by various organisations in Tripura and disruption in train movement due to 11 hr Northeast Bandh, following passenger carrying trains have been short terminated/originated as given under:

The agitators said that the Bill nullifies the Assam Accord which has fixed March 24th, 1971 as the cut-off to identify illegal foreigners.
