Guwahati: The Manipur police on Thursday seized at least 18 gold bars weighing 2.9 kgs and arrested one gold smuggler at the Pallel check-post in Kakching district.
The arrested person was identified as Prakash Kshetri (23) of Ward No 8, Moreh in the Tengnoupal district.
The information was shared by chief minister N Biren Singh on his official Twitter handle.
“Gold smuggler busted with a large amount of gold! As we intensify the crackdown against the smugglers, the Kakching Police has apprehended one Prakash Kshetri (23) a resident of Moreh, Ward No 8 along with 18 bars of gold weighing 2.9 kgs during frisking at Pallel check-post today,” said the chief minister.

It is also learned that the seized gold bars were recovered from a van concealed beneath the step of the left door. And each gold bar weighs around 166 grams.
Further investigations are underway.
