Guwahati, Jan 3: “Chaolung Sukapha preached about harmony and peace and if we cannot follow the ideals of Swargadeo Sukapha to strengthen the Assamese society we would not be able to show true respect to the founder of greater Assamese identity.”
Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today stated while speaking at the inaugural function of Charaideo Mahotsav at Charaideo Maidam Kshetra as the chief guest.
Saying that Sukhapha was not only a respected figure of Assam but whole of South East Asia who gave Assam its identity, Sonowal stated that there is a need to make concerted effort to study great traits of his personality like humanity, ability to work hard, sincerity and strong moral values etc. He also urged the people to strive to make Assam one of the top states in the country following Sukapha’s ideals and said that if the state’s resources and potentials can be utilised properly, its progress can be ensured.
The chief minister urged the people to extend all possible cooperation in implementing the projects successfully foundation stone of which was laid today. The work in the projects amounting Rs 24 crore for preserving the heritage places of Charaideo has also been started from today, the chief minister said. He also thanked Tourism Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and ATDC Chairman Jayanta Malla Baruah for their initiatives to preserve the historic places of Charaideo and Sivasagar districts.
Changing the environment of lethargy and corruption the present government has brought about an atmosphere of progress and development in the state and through only an efficient work culture societal change can be achieved, Sonowal said. Informing that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched the Swadesh Darshan project for conservation of historic and heritage places across the country chief Ministerv Sonowal said that Assam Government has also taken steps for making the state a top tourist destination taking advantage of this scheme.
Saying that the matter of constructing a permanent “rangamancha” at Charaideo Mahotsav venue would be actively considered by the government, Sonowal announced that financial grants would be provided every year for organising Charaideo Mahotsav. The chief minister also laid the foundation stone of infrastructure development project of Chraideo maidam today.
MPs Kamakhya Tasa and Pradan Baruah, MLAs Jogen Mohan, Tapan Gogoi, Kushal Duwori, ATDC Chairman Jayanta Malla Baruah, Commissioner and Secretary of Tourism Department R.C. Jain, DC Charaideo Bibekananda Phukan were also present on the occasion among other dignitaries.
