The 24-hour chakka bandh called by All Assam Motor Transport Association (AAMTA) demanding “fare hike” hit normal life in Guwahati along parts of the state.

The bandh will be observed from 5am today till 5 am October 4th, 2019 giving a tough time to the pitch of the festivities and the Durga Puja revelry.

The vehicular movements were affected as public transports kept off the roads giving a hard time for the commuters. Although a few of the Assam State Transport Corporation(ASTC) buses plied, they could not cater to the huge crowd waiting at the bus stops. The movement of trekker and auto-rickshaws were also less creating a problem for the commuters.

An otherwise busy road in GS Road wore a deserted look in the morning hours of October 3rd, 2019. Even some of the business establishments remained shut.

It may be mentioned that Transport Association has been demanding for fare hike since 2016 post the hike in fuel prices and vehicle registration fee.
