3 More Test COVID-19 Positive In Assam, State Tally Rises To 56

There are 21 active cases in Assam and 34 COVID-19 patients have been discharged so far

Three more persons tested positive for novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in Assam on May 8th, 2020, taking the State tally to 56.

Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted, “3 more persons, who travelled in the bus from Rajasthan in which the Cachar dist #COVID19 + person travelled, have tested positive.”

There are 21 active cases in Assam and 34 COVID-19 patients have been discharged.

The Cachar COVID-19 patient is a notorious carjacker from Dhekiajuli in Sonitpur district of Assam.

He returned from Ajmer Sharif, which falls in the red zone of Rajasthan, on May 6th, 2020 along with 42 people in a bus.

Sarma said that a Rajasthan-registered bus was sent with 35 adult and 8 children to Silchar in Barak Valley’s Cachar without seeking permission from the State government.

Apart from the car thief, four other persons travelling in the Rajasthan bus have also tested positive for COVID-19 on May 7th, 2020.

The passengers, drivers and conductors on board of the bus didn’t follow any social distancing protocols, the minister said.

All passengers of the bus, its two drivers, and a conductor have been put under quarantine.

11 areas in Cachar have been declared as containment zones, Sarma informed.
