3 students, police officer injured in clash in Manipur

Imphal, January 12: Following a clash between students and police in Manipur, at least three persons, including a police officer were injured.

The students, members of six students’ bodies took out a protest rally against the passage of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 in Lok Sabha, broke through the police pickets and converged at the women’s markets from different sides, all the while shouting slogans against the BJP government in Manipur and the Modi government.

According to the police, the protesters became unruly and allegedly hurled bottles at the police injuring O Joyraj, a police officer in Imphal West district, after which the police retaliated which left two students seriously injured on Friday.

It may be mentioned that Chief Minister N Biren Singh and some Ministers and BJP MLAs left for New Delhi on Thursday to apprise Prime Minister Narendra Modi about the escalating protests.
