    44 Assam police personnel tested Covid-19 positive

    One Hemanga Majumdar, 45 years old, resident of Khanapara, Guwahati died due to COVID-19 in GMCH on Sunday.

    Guwahati: Assam’s additional director general of police (ADGP) Gyanencra Pratap Singh on Sunday revealed that as many as 44 Assam police personnel were tested Covid-19 positive till June 28.

    ADGP Singh said, “Continuing to serve the people of Assam during Covid-19 pandemic, 44 Assam police personnel have been tested positive for covid-19 till June 28. 1127 personnel are under quarantine. They are all in high spirits.”

    So far, 7165 persons have been tested Covid-19 positive across the state till Sunday. However, 5088 were already discharged from various hospitals while 2063 positive persons were still found to be active. Notably, Assam has recorded 9 deaths so far.

    In a tweet, state’s health and family welfare minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “There are 2.5 times more people who are back home than in hospitals now. With 5000+ recovered at a rate of 71% we’ve done very well.”

    Sarma also expressed heartfelt condolence to the relatives of Late Hemanga Majumdar who died on Sunday at Gauhati Medical College & Hospitals (GMCH) here due to Covid-19.  

    “Sad to inform that one Hemanga Majumdar, 45 years old, resident of Khanapara, Guwahati died due to COVID-19 today in GMCH. He was brought to the hospital late, in a critical state. The doctors could not save him. My sincere condolences to the bereaved family,” the Minister added.
