6 Writers From Northeast India To Get Sahitya Akademi Awards

The renowned writer from Assam Sanjib Pol Deka and Rujab Muchahary have been selected for the prestigious Sahitya Akademi Yuva Puraskar (award) 2019 while Swmim Nasrin and Lakhminath Brahma have been selected for the Bal Sahitya Puraskar 2019.

The Sahitya Akademi announced the awards on June 14th, 2019 in 23 languages this year.

Sanjib Pol Deka will be awarded the Sahitya Akademi Yuva Puraskar for his short story book – ‘Ei Pine Ki Ase?’ in the Assamese language while Rujab Muchahary will be awarded for his poetry book – ‘Sansri Arw Mwndangthini Mwkhang’ in Bodo language.

Muchahary, who hails from Bijni in Assam’s Chirang district, is an assistant professor in Rangia College.

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal also congratulated the writers and said, “Congratulations to Shri Sanjib Pol Deka and Shri Rujab Muchahary on being selected for Sahitya Akademi Yuva Puraskar 2019 for their respective contributions to Assamese and Bodo literature. This is a great achievement & will inspire many to further enrich our literary heritage.”

On the other hand, Swmim Nasrin will be awarded the Bal Sahitya Puraskar for her story book – ‘Mili, Amia Aru Ekhon Nadi’ in the Assamese language while prominent Bodo littérateur Lakhminath Brahma will be honoured for his book – ‘Solobatha Khwnasong De’ in Bodo language. Brahma retired as the principal of Basugaon Higher Secondary School recently. He also served as president of the Kokrajhar district Bodo Sahitya Sabha.

“Many congratulations to Swmim Nasrin and Lakhminath Brahma on being named for @sahityaakademi Bal Sahitya Puraskar 2019. The award is a recognition towards their contribution in popularising Assamese & Bodo literature. My best wishes,” CM Sonowal tweeted.

Jiten Oinamba from Manipur has been selected for the Sahitya Akademi Yuva Puraskar for the poetry book ‘Canvasta Tarakpa Pirangna’ and R.K. Sanahanbi Chanu has been selected for the Bal Sahitya Puraskar for the play ‘Thawaishinggi Thawai’.
