60 KMPH Storm May Hit Northeast In Next 24 Hours

The India Meteorological Department on May 4th, 2019 forecasted strong surface wind with speed of 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph over the Northeast region of the country. It also forecasted moderate rain/ thundershower at most places over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura in the next 24 hours.

The department also predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya while heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at isolated places over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.

The depression over Bangladesh moved east-northeastwards with a speed of about 29 kmph in last six hours and lay centred over Western Meghalaya and adjoining Bangladesh, about 110 km southeast of Dhubri in Assam and 130 km west-southwest of Guwahati. It is very likely to move northeastwards and weaken into a Well Marked Low-Pressure Area during next 12 hours.

Cherrapunjee witnessed 20 cm rainfall during last 12 hours while Shillong 9 cm, Guwahati 5 cm, Dhubri witnessed 3 cm. On the other hand, Tezpur, Haflong and Kailasahar witnessed two cm rainfall each while Itanagar, Majbat, Golaghat, Lumding and Chaparmukh witnessed one cm rainfall each.
