Guwahati: In a shocking incident, a GMCH patient aged about 65 years has reportedly gone missing from the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) since August 3, 2022.

The patient has been identified as Dilip Das, a resident of Rongamati in Golaghat’s Dergaon.

The incident came to light after the family members of the said patient raised a hue and cry at the hospital premises.

According to reports, the patient was admitted to the casualty ward of the GMCH on the night of August 1 i.e. last Monday at around 12.30 am. The patient was undergoing treatment for an injury in his right leg after an alleged physical assault on him at his native place in Dergaon on July 30, 2022.

Speaking to the media, GMCH superintendent, Dr Abhijit Sarma said that the patient had been discharged against medical advice on August 3 (Wednesday).

Sarma said, “The patient did not want to undergo treatment and was curious to go home since day one. He constantly urged his family members to take him to his native place. His son and wife were his attendees at the hospital. On Wednesday, the patient was discharged against medical advice (DAMA) following a request from the son. Since then, the person has gone missing.”

“We have lodged a police complaint. We have also checked the CCTV footage in which the patient was seen walking in the corridors of the hospital,” Sarma further added.

Update: Interestingly the patient has been found in Ganeshguri near Ganesh Mandir on Saturday afternoon. OC Bangagarh informed GMCH Superintendent.
