69-Year-Old Doctor Becomes First COVID-19 Positive Patient In Meghalaya

The state government has declared curfew in the entire district for two days and has also extended the lockdown till April 30th, 2020.

A 69-year-old doctor of the Bethany Hospitals, Shillong has been reported to be infected by the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in Meghalaya which has now made him the first confirmed case in the state.

Sources said that the doctor had no history of visiting any other place except for nearby areas of Shillong in the past few days. Following this, the state government has declared curfew in the entire district for two days and has also extended the lockdown till April 30th, 2020.

Along with this, the government has also suspended all sorts of interstate movement from and to Meghalaya. These restrictions will be imposed until the government feels that the situation is improved.

However, there might be some relaxation for the people who are stranded in Meghalaya since the lockdown. These people might be allowed to head back to there homes but their movement will be monitored by the government officials.

Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said that the government has also directed that people who are lodged in the particular hospital where the doctor works should be sanitized and no one who be allowed to move out or move in from the hospital. All persons who have recently visited the hospital recently should come forward so that proper measures can be taken in this regard. The people can inform the government about this issue by calling the number 108.

The government during the extension of the lockdown will still allow the movement of essential services in the state.
