Assam Police and Indian Army have busted a recruitment module of banned outfit Kamatapur Liberation Organisation (KLO) in Kokrajhar district and arrested seven dreaded militants of the group.

A huge cache of arms and ammunition have also been recovered from the possession of the militants.

The KLO has been recruiting in large numbers and the module was operational since December 2019. Based on inputs, security forces launched an operation in Chakrasila Reserve forest on the night of May 7th, 2020.

The recruitment module was being run by one Lankeshwar Koch alias Lambu and he was Myanmar trained self-styled Area Commander of KLO in Lower Assam, along with four Bangladesh trained and two newly recruited and locally trained militants.

“Koch was the self-styled second lieutenant and Area Commander of Lower Assam. His prime targets were unemployed and uneducated youth,” said Kokrajhar SP Rakesh Roushan.

He added, “These cadres were caught when they came to attend a meeting inside the forest. A huge quantity of weapons was recovered from the militants which include a total of seven pistols.”

Security personnel had recovered four factory-made pistols and three country-made pistols from their possession.

“The apprehension of seven cadres and busting of recruitment racket has given a severe blow to the anti-social motives of KLO which has been trying hard to gain importance after the surrender of NDFB,” said Roushan.
