The Nagaland People’s Front (NPF) has suspended seven of its legislators from both primary and active membership for extending support to MP Tokheho Yepthomi of Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) who was contesting for the lone Lok Sabha seat in Nagaland on April 11th, 2019.
The seven legislators have been identified as Kejong Chang, E.E. Pangteang, Eshak Konyak, C.L. John, B.S. Nganlang, N. Thongwang Konyak and Toyang Chang.
Reportedly, the NPF legislators were campaigning for Yepthomi despite show cause notices issued against them and according to NPF’s supremo Shurhozelie Liezietsu, the rebel legislators will face the wrath of the party on the floor of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly as per existing law and judicial decisions of the Supreme Court.
Though the seven legislators demanded the withdrawal of the show cause notices issued against them, Liezietsu said the legislators instead of expressing remorse for not adhering to the party’s collective decision and directive, they continuously associated themselves with the ruling NDPP candidate.
It may be mentioned, Yepthomi was the joint candidate of the ruling NDPP-led PDA, which comprises the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the lone Lok Sabha seat in the state.
Meanwhile, the NPF didn’t field a candidate of its own and instead extended support to former Chief Minister and Congress candidate K.L. Chishi.
