Seven children among nine killed in three landslides in Manipur

Guwahati/Imphal, July 11: At least nine people including children have been killed in massive landslides that occurred in three different locations of Tamenglong town in the wee hours of Wednesday.

Due to incessant rain since the past few days, several areas of the state had been severely affected by the flood. Due to which, a few houses of New Salem and Neigailuang villages collapsed on Wednesday.

Five children of the same parents died on the spot in New Salem, Tamenglong ward no. 4. In another location, two children of the same parents were carried away by muddy water. A mother-son duo died when their house in Neigailuang, Tamenglong ward no. 2 was swept away by the slide.

It may be mentioned that Manipur was virtually cut off from the rest of the country on Sunday after a bridge along the National Highway 37 got damaged following heavy rain.

While seven of the bodies have been recovered, the Tamenglong district administration has informed that efforts are on to recover the two remaining bodies in Ramgailong, Tamenglong ward number 3.
