A total of 915 religious institutions across Assam have been developed under the ‘Asom Darshan’ scheme. This was informed by Assam Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Addressing a press meet in Guwahati on February 22nd, 2020, Sarma said the 915 religious institutions include 74 devalayas, 459 temples, 186 satras, 123 namghars 47 masjids and mazars, and 26 churches.
He also informed that 316 picnic and tourist destinations would also be developed and would later be included in the ‘Asom Darshan’ scheme.
The Minister also informed that Rs 710 crore have been spent under the scheme for infrastructural development and road construction. An additional Rs 10 lakh would be spent under the scheme.
The ‘Asom Darshan’ scheme would be officially inaugurated on February 24th, 2020 at Veterinary College Ground, Khanapara. The representative of the religious institutions will attend the ceremony. Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal is likely to attend the event.
