Guwahati, August 6: Breaking the barriers of religion, the All Assam Minorities Students’ Union (AAMSU) took up the responsibility of cremating a Hindu youth who had allegedly been boycotted by his society.
The incident took place at Molia village, Borkathoni area in Golaghat district.
The 33-year-old youth identified as Pabitra Borah was suffering from kidney disorder and breathed his last on Sunday morning. After being abandoned by the villagers, the poverty-stricken family, however, received no support to arrange the youth’s funeral.
The local unit of the AAMSU in the meantime, came forward to help the family and completed the funeral rites of the deceased as per the Hindu rituals and customs.
One of the villagers claimed that the family of the deceased was facing an “undeclared social ostracisation” over the years.
It has been reported that the family was “boycotted” by the village panchayat over a property dispute.
