Tinsukia, March 9, 2019
The Tinsukia unit All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) on March 9th, 2019 slammed the Union Minister of State for Railways Rajen Gohain for terminating the railway service through the first railroad that connects Dibrugarh to Margherita.
Way back in 1881, railway first came to Assam when Assam Railway and Trading Company set up 65-km-long metre gauge track from Dibrugarh to Margherita.
AASU leadership alleged that the Tinsukia Zonal Officer had transferred the station masters of Borhapjan, Hahsora, Dumduma, Rupai, Talap and Dangori railway stations to the Tinsukia New Hijuguri Rail Station.
The students’ body demanded the reoperation of the track again. “Otherwise, we will be compelled to launch an agitation,” Tinsukia AASU said.
