GUWAHATI: Rajya Sabha member-elect Ajit Kumar Bhuyan on Monday said that the mysterious role played by the leadership of the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) will help the ruling BJP returning to power in the 2021 assembly elections.
Bhuyan, who is also the chief of the newly formed Anchalik Gana Morcha, said, “We are not happy with the mysterious role of the AASU leadership. They (AASU leaders) have neither consented to the Morcha’s proposal for a formal meeting nor replied to the letter sent to them. AASU will simply help the ruling BJP returning to power in the 2021 assembly elections.”
Bhuyan said this while interacting with the natives of Barpeta on Monday. He said that the Morcha has been trying to unite the indigenous organisations and regional political parties of the state under one umbrella.
Stressing that the AASU has not met the Morcha leaders on mysterious reasons, Bhuyan said, “People of Assam will evidently doubt the AASU’s role. Moreover, the apex students’ union’s move to form a new regional political party will hamper the rising of the existing regional political forces.”
He further said, “Morcha is yet to sit in a formal meeting with the Congress and the AIUDF. With an aim to oust the BJP from power in the 2021 assembly elections, the Morcha will talk to the Congress and the AIUDF.”
Bhuyan also criticised Zubeen Garg and said, “Garg is not an artist having social responsibility. No, doubt, he is a popular singer. But an artist has to possess ideological stance to engage oneself in social works for the greater interest of the society and to protest against an anti-people government. Otherwise, they (artist like Zubeen) have to continue running after the government to fulfil their personal interest.”
Bhuyan was accompanied by other Morcha leaders – Haidar Hussain, Manjit Mahanta, Haliram Terang, Mehdi Alam Bora and others.
