Congress candidate from Barpeta Abdul Khaleque on April 21st, 2019 targeted the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) chief Badruddin Ajmal over his recent statement that ‘Congress is a betrayer’ and said that the latter is a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s agent and of “cheap mentality”.

“There is no doubt that Ajmal is an agent of the saffron party. He follows BJP’s dictation and acts accordingly,” Khaleque said while talking to media persons at Kolgasia’s Bamuntari in Assam’s Barpeta district on April 21st, 2019.

Besides, while dubbing Ajmal of “cheap mentality”, Khaleque said, “A man such cheap mentality can speak anything. So, I don’t feel any necessity to react on every time.”

Moreover, talking about Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s dance on the streets of the state during rallies on the BJP’s election anthem, Khaleque said, “Himanta is now a mentally imbalanced person.”

Congress candidate from Dibrugarh Pawan Singh Ghatowar, Tezpur candidate MGVK Bhanu, Mariani legislator Rupjyoti Kurmi and Barpeta MLA Sherman Ali Ahmed were also present in the rally.

Khaleque is contesting against Asom Gana Parishad candidate Kumar Deepak Das. Sirajuddin Ajmal from AIUDF is the sitting MP from the constituency.
