ABSU slams BJP Govt over ST Bill

Guwahati, January 20: All Boro Students’ Union (ABSU) president Pramod Boro on Sunday slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led central government over its move to grant Scheduled Tribes (ST) status to the six communities of the state by implementing the Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order (Amendment) Bill, 2019.
Boro, while expressing his concern over the possible existential threat of the tribal communities of the state, said, “It is completely injustice. With the grant of the ST status to the six communities, the other ST communities will be deprived off.”
The six communities seeking ST status are- Moran, Motok, Tai-Ahom, Koch-Rajbongshi, Tea Garden Community and Chutia.
Talking to media persons, Boro questioned, “Why does the Tai-Ahom community, which ruled the earlier Assam for 600 years, need the ST status? How will the small ethnic groups compete with the Tai-Ahom community which is rich from all aspects?.”
Boro further urged the government to declare Assam as ST state instead of doing ‘discrimination’. He also voices against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016.
