Guwahati: Double world championship bronze medalist boxer and Olympic quota winner Lovlina Borgohain has tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday.
The 23-year-old boxer tested positive hours before she was about to board a flight to Italy along with the Indian contingent for a training-cum-competition trip.
Borhgohain travelled to her hometown Assam to meet her ailing mother prior to her departure for the European trip. She was tested negative in the initial test after her return.
However, upon being tested again on October 15, four days after her return from Assam, she tested positive.
Borgohain has been in isolation since returning from Guwahati, as per the Standard Operation Procedures (SOPs) and she is being given requisite treatment and is under medical observation. Along with Lovlina Borgohain, celebrated boxer MC Mary Kom and World championship bronze medalist Manish Kaushik will also miss the tour due to illness and injury, respectively.
