An additional NRC draft will be published on June 15th, 2019 ahead of the publication of the NRC on July 31st, 2019.
The additional draft list will contain the names of applicants who were included in the draft published on July 30th, 2018 but were later found to be ineligible for inclusion in the citizens’ register during suo-moto verification undertaken by the authorities.
The person, who was found ineligible for inclusion in the NRC, will be informed through an additional notice to be delivered at his/her residence. They will be given an opportunity to file claims for inclusion of their names in the updated register by June 30th, 2019.
On the other hand, the Supreme Court has issued a directive that the NRC staffers who were assigned for the 2019 Lok Sabha election duties should be redeployed for working specifically on the register.
The NRC is being updated in Assam under the guidance and supervision of the Supreme Court to detect foreigners living illegally in the state.
On the midnight of December 31st, 2017, partial draft of the NRC was released and subsequently on July 30th, 2018, the complete draft NRC was released. A total of 28,983,677 persons were found eligible out of 32,991,384 applicants in the final draft of the NRC. Of these, 37,59,630 names have been rejected and the remaining 2,48,077 are on hold.
