GUWAHATI: Adil Hussain starrer Netflix’s original series Delhi Crime bagged the best drama series honour at the 48th International Emmy Awards. It is the first Indian show to win the Emmy’s.
Directed by Indian-Canadian director Richie Mehta, the series deconstructed the case of the 23-year-old physiotherapy intern who was abducted and gang-raped in a moving bus on the night of December 16, 2012, before she was abandoned on a Delhi road.
She later succumbed to her injuries in a Singapore hospital a fortnight later.
A proud Adil Hussain expressing happiness, told media, “I am thrilled. It is a series which deals with one of the horrific events in the country and raised the alarms of the need for stringent laws for crimes against women.”
The series featured Shefali Shah as Vartika Chaturvedi, Adil Hussain as Kumar Vijay, and Rajesh Tailang as Bhupendra Singh. Besides, the series also featured Rasika Dugal, Abhilasha Singh, Jaya Bhattacharya, and others.
The series was released on Netflix on March 22, 2019.

The series had received massive acclaim for its insightful depiction of the horrific crime that took global headlines then.
