GUWAHATI: The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Bipin Rawat stated on Saturday in Guwahati that “overflow” of the situation in Afghanistan could occur in Jammu and Kashmir and that “we must have to prepare for it.”

What is happening in Afghanistan has the chance to overflow over into Jammu and Kashmir We have prepare for this, close our borders, and monitor the situation closely. We need to keep an eye on who’s coming in from the outside and checking should be done, said official participating in the first Ravi Kant Singh Memorial lecture series in Guwahati, organised by the Assam police.

He also stated that common people and tourists have to face the burden of heavy checking and that they should understand that this is for their safety and security.

General Bipin Rawat, India’s chief of military staff, said on Saturday that China’s entrance into South Asia and the Indian Ocean region is not in India’s national interest, and that the northern neighbor’s goals and aspirations to global supremacy constituted a “omnipresent danger” to regional stability, official added.

“Through the Belt and Road Initiative projects, China is making significant inroads in South Asia and the Indian Ocean region. Recently, we’ve seen a geostrategic competition and massive investments by China in the region”, official said.

According to General Rawat, Bangladesh and Myanmar have received the most Chinese military aid in recent years, as well as significant investments in Nepal, Sri Lanka, and the Maldives to build a strategic foothold.

“China’s forays into Bangladesh and Myanmar are not in India’s national interest, and they are just the latest pearls in a string of pearls seeking to engulf India. The threat of regional strategic instability is ever-present, threatening India’s territorial integrity and strategic cohesion”, official added.
