In order to make Assam a pollution-free state, 15 electric buses were introduced under Assam State Transport Corporation in Guwahati. In the next phase, the electric buses will be launched in Jorhat and Silchar depending on the success of this pilot project.
The new buses were procured under ‘Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles’ (FAME-1). As part of a pilot project, these buses will ply from Pan Bazaar to Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati. In the days to come, 100 more such buses will be introduced in the state under FAME-2.
During the flagging off ceremony of the 15 electric buses, Assam Minister of Transport Chandra Mohan Patowary said that these buses are equipped with all the modern amenities, security features and will not release any harmful gas.
As per information available, out of the 100 buses, 50 buses will ply in Guwahati, 25 each will be introduced in Jorhat and Silchar.
