After Manipur, Congress stakes claim to form Govt in M’laya

Shillong/Guwahati, May 18: After Manipur, now Ex-CM Mukul Sangma is likely to visit the Governor of the State Ganga Prasad today to appeal for immediate dissolution of the present government in the Meghalaya based on the developments which have taken place in Karnataka.

As per reports, Congress will propose the Governor to form Government, as Congress won the majority of the seats which has made it the single largest party in the state in the last Assembly Elections.

It may be mentioned that in Meghalaya, polls were held in February this year and the Congress emerged as the largest party by winning 21 out of the 59 seats.

However, its regional rival National People’s Party that won 19 seats and BJP with only two seats joined hands and won over other regional parties and independents to secure a majority.

As per reports, the Congress party will also submit a memorandum to the President via the Governor regarding Karnataka poll under the theme “safe democracy.”

It may be mentioned that in Meghalaya, the opposition Congress will organize a protest against the decision of Karnataka Governor, Vajubhai R Vala, who invited the BJP to form Government in the State by rejecting the Congress-JD(S) alliance.

The protest will be held at Congress Bhavan in Shillong on Friday at 11.30 am.
