After success in bank officials’ kidnap case, Tripura DGP hails police force as among the best

Agartala/Guwahati, December 4: After the successful operation that ensued in the safe recovery of the four kidnapped bank officials of Tripura last week, the Director General of Police (DGP) of Tripura AK Shukla on Sunday stated the police had once again proved their force was among the best in the country.

Briefing about the complete operation in a press conference at the Police Headquarter in Agartala, the DGP said that the entire operation was based on the scientific approach and application of modern technology especially the Global Positioning System (GPS).  He added that even helicopter surveillance was also put in place to follow the movement of kidnappers.

He said that Rs 48,85,870 had been recovered from the possession in connection to the case of four abducted Gramin Bank officials and 9 persons were arrested, adding that some of them were surrendered, insurgents.

However, the DGP made it clear that there is no official record with State Police of paying Rs 50 lakhs by the victims’ families. The investigation is still going on and there are possibilities of further arrests, he added.

Meanwhile, all the nine people accused of kidnapping the four bank employees were produced before SDJM Court of Gomati District and they were sent to six days police custody.

The four Tripura Gramin Bank employees of Taidu Branch were kidnapped on November 24 while they were returning home after completing their duty. After a week they were released and came back safely to their respective homes.
