AGP ministers call on AASU leaders over Citizenship bill

Guwahati, January 9: The Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) leadership on Wednesday called on the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) leaders in the headquarter in Guwahati over the Citizenshi (Amendment) Bill, 2016, issue.

It may be mentioned that three AGP ministers submitted their resignations on Wednesday.

AGP president and Assam Agriculture Minister Atul Bora, Assam Water Resources Minister Keshab Mahanta, Assam Food and Civil Supplies Minister Phani Bhushan Choudhury tendered their resignations today.

It may be mentioned that the AGP withdrew their alliance with the BJP in Assam on Monday after the saffron party went ahead with the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 in the Lok Sabha.

Bora said on Tuesday that he has followed his mother’s advice of staying with the public.

“Had the Assam leaders, who were associated with the Assam Movement, supported us…this Bill wouldn’t have been tabled…this day would have never come,” said Bora.
