Jagiroad, April 13, 2019
The Jagiroad unit of the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) on April 13th 2019 expressed disappointment over the fresh alliance of the regional party with the Bharatiya Janata Party and demanded the resignation of party president Atul Bora and AGP leader and minister Keshab Mahanta.
It may be mentioned that two months after pulling out over the much-debated Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, the AGP and BJP are back as allies for the Lok Sabha Elections. While the ruling BJP has fielded 10 candidates from Assam, the AGP has fielded three candidates with BPF contesting for Kokrajhar seat.
Post the reunion, a number of the party leaders dubbed Bora as “selfish” and “power hungry”.
“The reunion is not acceptable. We oppose the decision of the party’s central committee’s decision of forging an alliance with the BJP which has announced to pass the Bill,” said a party worker of Jagiroad unit.
“We demand the resignation of Bora, Mahanta. The leaders who once opposed the contentious Bill have now joined hands with the BJP for power,” added AGP leader.
