Guwahati: Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Assam, the All Assam Students Union took out a statewide rally on Saturday to protest the central government’s controversial citizenship law.
Protesters in various districts took out massive bike rallies against the law that promises citizenship to non-Muslim immigrants from three neighbouring countries if they came in before 2015.
The protests is being held in several places in Assam like Chhaygaon, Mangaldoi, Boko, Demow,Dhemaji, Narayanpur, Nalbari and other places.
The protesters raised slogan against the BJP government and against CAA. In Golaghat the protesters shouted slogans in front of Ajanta Neog’s house saying, “Ajanta Neog go back”.
The NRC exercise and the CAA have been opposed in Assam and AASU alleges that the Central government has violated the Clause 6 of Assam Accord – which guarantees constitutional, legislative and administrative safeguards to protect preserve and promote the culture, social, linguistic identity and heritage of the Assamese people.
