Ailing Gossaigaon Polling Official Dies, Family Cries For Aid

A Gossaigaon polling official who was undergoing treatment at a Bongaigaon hospital, after he fell unconscious amid the Lok Sabha elections duty, breathed his last on April 25th, 2019.

Sohrab Uddin Shekher was deployed at the No 237 Satgama LP School as a polling officer under Gossaigaon Mahkuma of the Kokrajhar district during the third phase of the election in Assam. While the polling was underway, he suddenly fell unconscious owing to high blood pressure.

Although he was immediately rushed to the nearest Gossaigaon Civil Hospital, he was referred to the Bongaigaon Civil Hospital for further treatment.

He was employed as a teacher with Bikibadha LP School in Parbatjhora Sub-Division under BTAD. Post the official’s sudden death, the family along with the locals and teachers’ association has appealed for financial assistance from the government.
