Guwahati: In a shocking incident, an Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) leader allegedly opened fire at a truck driver in the Boginadi area in the Lakhimpur district on Saturday.

According to reports, the injured driver identified as Kunbahar Ali from Barpeta was shot at by the AJP leader with his licensed gun while he was parking a broiler-feed carrying truck at a godown in Boginadi.

Sources informed that the said AJP leader had a verbal spat with the driver over the parking following which the AJP leader first fired a live round of ammunition in the air and then shot the driver in the chest.

The injured driver was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition.

However, the doctors referred him to Dibrugarh’s Assam Medical College Hospital (AMCH) for better treatment.

So far no reports of arrest of the AJP leader have been received till the filing of this report.
