Akhil Gogoi demanded Rs 10 Cr from AIUDF? Aminul Islam stirred fresh controversy
Guwahati: The All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) leader Aminul Islam has stirred new controversy as he claimed Raijor Dal chief and Sibsagar MLA Akhil Gogoi of demanding Rs 10 Crore from the party before the state assembly elections in May last.
The comment from the AIUDF leader came after Gogoi constantly rejected to be a part of the Congress led ‘Mahajoth’ (grand alliance) till AIUDF remains a part of it. Islam earlier claimed that Gogoi before launching his own party of Raijor Dal ahead of the last state assembly polls in a discussion with AIUDF had asked for the sum to contest the elections.
Islam said, “He said that he would need around Rs 10 Crore to strengthen and expanding his party while he was in judicial custody before the election. The discussion happened even before the formation of grand alliance in the last election. Akhil Gogoi said that since his party was new, he needed the sum to establish his party’s reach across the state before the polls.”
On the other hand, Gogoi completely rejected the claims and termed Islam as a “fraud and communal” leader.
Gogoi said, “I am the most honest politician in Assam who works with the people. Islam is a communal leader and I don’t think I need anything to reply to his claims. These are purely baseless.”
The Rajor Dal leader continued to reject joining hands with the Congress led grand alliance if AIUDF continues to be part of it.
“Like BJP, AIUDF is also a communal force. So there is no question of joining the grand alliance if AIUDF remains included in it. However, negotiations can be done with Congress directly. If we (all except AIUDF) join hand, we can stop BJP in the by-polls,” Gogoi added.
Assam is eyeing at a by-polls in at least five seats due to the demise of its MLAs and resignation of Congress MLAs and joining BJP.
