GUWAHATI: Key anti-Citizenship (Amendment) Act leader and chief of the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti Akhil Gogoi was granted bail by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) Court, here on Thursday against the Chabua police station case in which the NIA added charges under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act after it took over the cases.

Notably, the Gauhati High Court will hear the bail petition of the peasant leader in the Chandmari police station case on October 13.

However, the peasant leader is yet to get bail against the Chandmari police station case in which the NIA charged Gogoi’s link with Maoists. Notably, a division bench of the Gauhati High Court on September 28 issued notice and directed the NIA to file its detail objection against anti-CAA leader’s bail order before October 13. The Gauhati High Court served the notice for the NIA rejected the bail plea of Gogoi in the Chandmari police station case.

Gogoi was arrested from December in December last year by the Assam police for his alleged violent protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act. Later, the peasant leader was handed over to the NIA and was booked under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

Other peasant leaders arrested during the anti-CAA movement, who were later handed over to the NIA were Dharya Konwar, Manash Konwar and Bitu Sonowal. However, except Gogoi, other arrested were granted bail by the NIA Court earlier.
