Akhil Gogoi Gets Bail in Three Anti-CAA Cases

Gogoi who has been behind the bars since December last year during the anti CAA protest has been repeatedly arrested

Guwahati: The Gauhati High Court on Thursday granted bail to anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) leader Akhil Gogoi in three cases registered with Assam Police.

Gogoi who has been behind the bars since December last year during the anti CAA protest has been repeatedly arrested in connection with multiple cases registered with both state police and National Investigation Agency (NIA).

The NIA has also slapped charges under stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and accused the peasant leader of having nexus with Maoist ultras.

His counsel Krishna Gogoi said, “He has been granted bail in three cases registered with Chabua police.”  Gogoi was shown arrest in these cases on May 28 while in custody.

However, Gogoi can’t walk out of the jail as he has to receive bails against two other cases by NIA and no fresh cases are filed against him.

Gogoi who has been recently tested positive with COVID19 has been undergoing medical attention at Guwahati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) now. The State government has also formed a board of doctors for his health monitoring.

Protests demanding his unconditional release by various organizations in the state continued.
