“Akhil Gogoi is frustrated”: Badruddin Ajmal
Guwahati: War of words continued between Raijor Dal president and Sibsagar MLA Akhil Gogoi and All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF).
Gogoi who advocated Congress’s move of ousting AIUDF from the grand alliance it formed ahead of the state assembly polls in January has been coming down heavily on AIUDF leaders blaming them to be BJP’s ‘B’ team.
On Monday, reacting to the development for the first time, AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal termed Gogoi of losing his focus.
“He (Akhil Gogoi) is a frustrated person. He thought his party will win some 15 seats in the state elections but only won one. So, he is just trying to grab media attention by targeting AIUDF,” Ajmal said.
While asked whether the snapping of ties with Congress would impact the party’s position, he said that though the decision to spilt tie was ‘unfortunate’ but it would still help AIUDF in the future.
“It’s a win-win situation for both Congress and AIUDF,” he said.
Ajmal also informed that the party may fight in maximum two seats out of the six seats going for the bypolls.
“AIUDF likely to contest in two seats and will win in both of them,” he added. However, he did not disclose the names of the seats that the party was planning to contest.
The six constituencies of Gossaigaon, Tamulpur, Bhabanipur, Mariani, Majuli and Thowra will go for a bypolls likely to be held by the end of this year. Recently Bhabanipur MLA from AIUDF Phani Talukdar quit his post and joined BJP.
