All restaurants, dhabas, sweets shops, cafes, coffee house and fast food joints have been asked to remain closed on March 22nd, 2020 in Assam as support to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s clarion call to observe ‘Janata Curfew’ as a precautionary measure to avoid the spread of deadly novel coronavirus.
Novel coronavirus or Covid-19 has claimed over 9,000 lives across the world and has affected at least 2 lakh people across the globe. As per the Ministry of Health data, India has registered 273 cases with four deaths.
However, no positive coronavirus case has been detected in Assam so far.
Modi also appealed the people to impose a self curfew on March 22nd, 2020 to fight the coronavirus pandemic in the country. He also appealed to all Indians to take part in thanking healthcare providers by clapping from their homes on March 22nd, 2020 at 5 pm.
“All appealed by Prime Minister Modi, all the restaurants and food joints across Assam will observe a complete ‘Janata Curfew’ and pull down the shutters of all the outlets,” said Deba Kumar Barman, president, All Assam Restaurant Association.
Barma added,” All the restaurants and eateries across the state have been directed to keep adequate sanitizer for use of both staffs as well as customers. Large gatherings of guests will be avoided in any outlet for the time being until the situation is under control.”
Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed that all 57 samples which were taken, were checked and found negative. There are four coronavirus testing labs in Assam.
Though Assam has shut down educational institutes, wildlife spots, movie halls, gyms, swimming pools, parks, museums, libraries, coaching centres, beauty parlours and barbershops till March 31st, 2020, there has been no order yet to close the food joints in the state.
The government has ordered the closure of all liquor bars, country liquor bars, night clubs, beauty parlours and salon (unisex) in the state with immediate effect to contain the spread of deadly novel coronavirus.
The Assam Excise department has directed all DCs and Superintendent of Excise of all districts to shut down all Indian Made Foreign Liquor shops, which will remain closed till March 31st, 2020.
The Assam government has also shut all its tiger reserves, national parks, wildlife sanctuaries and the Assam State Zoo-cum-Botanical Garden till March 29th, 2020 as part of its preparation to stop the spread of coronavirus.
The government has also suspended all permissions granted for film shootings and research works in the wildlife spots till March 29th, 2020.
