    All You Need To Know About Coronavirus Outbreak In China

    The outbreak of Coronavirus has killed at least 17 people infecting more than 400 people in China till January 22nd, 2020.

    The authorities in Central China’s Wuhan has temporarily suspended all the outbound public transportations of 11 million people in a bid attempt to limit the spread of the virus– 2019-nCoV. The virus is believed to have originated in the city.

    Scientist Leo Poon, who first decoded the virus, has claimed that in all probability it started from an animal and spread to humans.

    The World Health Organization(WHO) is yet to declare it global health emergency and has given its experts more time to gather information. “The decision about whether or not to declare a public health emergency of international concern on new #coronavirus is one I take extremely seriously, and one I am only prepared to make with appropriate consideration of all the evidence.” Director-General of WHO wrote on his Twitter handle.

    In a series of Tweets the WHO informed that their team in China is working with local experts and officials to investigate the outbreak.

    Things to know about Coronavirus:

    • According to WHO the virus feels like a common cold or an upper respiratory tract infection, with fever and cough. Severe cases can turn into pneumonia or kidney failure.
    • They are common in animals and can infect humans. Although there are confirmed reports that the strain can be spread from one person to another, the WHO is yet to confirm if it is contagious.
    • Central China’s Wuhan has frozen transportation in the city.

    WHO has made some general recommendations to be followed:

    • Anyone visiting live animal markets, wet markets or animal product markets, should practice general hygiene measures–regular hand washing after touching animals and animal products, avoiding touching eyes, nose or mouth with hands, and avoiding contact with sick animals or spoiled animal products. Any contact with other animals possibly living in the market (e.g., stray cats and dogs, rodents, birds, bats) should be strictly avoided.
    • The consumption of raw or undercooked animal products should be avoided.
    • People with underlying medical conditions are considered at higher risk of severe disease.

    India has also issued a travel advisory for the people visiting China:

    • Observe good personal hygiene
    • Practice frequent handwashing with soap
    • Follow respiratory etiquettes – cover your mouth when coughing or sneezing
    • Avoid close contact with people who are unwell or showing symptoms of illness, such as cough, runny nose etc.
    • Avoid contact with live animals and consumption of raw/undercooked meats
    • Avoid travel to farms, live animal markets or where animals are slaughtered
    • Wear a mask if you have respiratory symptoms such as cough or runny nose
