    All You Need To Know About Indian Railways Ticket Concession Rules

    Senior Citizens of foreign nationals and NRIs have been excluded from the senior citizen category for the purpose of concession in passenger fare

    The Indian Railways extended travel concessions in passenger fare to 53 categories of passengers and the element of concession ranges from 10 per cent to 100 per cent.

    The passengers, who are eligible to avail this concessions should be from any of these categories – physically challenged, patients, senior citizens, Izzat MST (Monthly Season Ticket), according to a PIB statement.

    Senior Citizens of foreign nationals and Non-resident Indians (NRIs) have been excluded from the senior citizen category for the purpose of concession in passenger fare. No concession has been given in the newly introduced trains like Humsafar, Antyodaya, Gatimaan and Vande Bharat.

    Senior citizen passengers now can opt to give up 50 per cent of the concession in addition to the existing option of giving up 100 per cent concession. No new concession has been given during the last 5 years.

    The information was shared by Piyush Goyal, Minister of Railways and Commerce & Industry, in Lok Sabha on February 6th, 2020.

    Cancer patients travelling alone or with an escort for treatment

    • 75% in (Air Condition) 2nd, 1st class and AC chair car
    • 100% in (Sleeper Class) SL & 3AC
    • 50% in 1AC & 2AC
    • One escort eligible for the same element of concession (except in SL & 3AC where escort gets 75%)

    Thalassemia patients travelling alone or with escort for periodic check-up

    • 75% in 2nd, SL, 1st Class, 3AC, AC chair Car

    Heart patients travelling alone or with an escort for heart surgery

    • 50% in 1AC and 2AC
    • One escort is also eligible for the same element of concession

    Kidney patients travelling alone or with an escort for kidney transplant Operation/Dialysis

    Haemophilia patients travelling alone or with an escort for treatment

    • 75% in 2nd, SL, 1st Class, 3AC, AC chair Car
    • One escort is also eligible for the same element of concession

    TB/Lupas Valgaris patients travelling alone or with an escort

    • 75% in 2nd, SL and 1st Class
    • One escort is also eligible for the same element of concession

    Non-infectious Leprosy patients

    • 75% in 2nd, SL and 1st Class
    • One escort is also eligible for the same element of concession

    AIDS patients – for treatment/check-up at nominated ART Centres

    • 50% in 2nd Class

    Ostomy patients

    • 50% in MST (Monthly Season Ticket) & QST (Quarterly Season Ticket).
    • One escort is also eligible for the same element of concession.

    Sickle cell Anaemia

    • 50% In SL, AC Chair Car, AC 3-tier and AC 2- tier classes

    Aplastic Anaemia

    • 50% In SL, AC Chair Car, AC 3-tier and AC 2- tier classes.

    All these concessions are applicable only on the base fare.
