Ahead of the forthcoming Lok Sabha election, the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) chief and Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) supremo Hagrama Mohilary on February 24th, 2019 said ‘alliance’ for the party would depend on time and that the party is committed to the development of the Bodoland Territorial Area Districts (BTAD) region.
“Alliance or friendship is not a big deal for BPF. We have to ensure the development of the whole BTAD region and welfare of its people,” Mohilary said.
Speaking to the media persons, the BPF leader also said, “BPF has an alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at present. But it may collapse if situation demands, the party may go for an alliance with the Congress or All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) for the greater interest of the region,”
On February 21st, 2019, Mohilary told media that the BPF would field candidate in Kokrajhar constituency only in the ensuing Lok Sabha election. “BPF will field candidate only in Kokrajhar in the ensuing general election and is fully prepared,” Mohilary said. Moreover, Mohilary informed that the party will support its partner – the ruling BJP in other seats.
On the other hand, on February 20th, 2019, Rajya Sabha MP from Assam and BPF leader had expressed his confidence on the party’s impressive performance in the 17th general election to be held this year.
