Ambubachi Mela Called Off: Second Time In A Row

The temple management authority had said that the doors of the Kamakhya temple will remain closed for the public till June 30

GUWAHATI: The Kamrup (metro) district administration has called off the historic Ambubachi Mela held at Kamakhya temple atop Nilachal hills here. This would be the second time that the annual event was cancelled due to the Covid19 pandemic.

Normally, the mela used to draw a crowd of over 15 lakhs before the pandemic began.

The metro district administration on Monday in a notice said it has decided to cancel Ambubachi Mela after it has received a letter from the Doloi management of the Kamakhya devalaya.

“Accordingly, lodging and accommodation for the devotees within the premises of Kamakhya temple will not be allowed to operate until further order. Inform all concerned accordingly,” said the notice.

The temple management authority had said that the doors of the Kamakhya temple will remain closed for the public till June 30.
