Guwahati: Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the 69th plenary meeting of the North Eastern Council in Meghalaya on Saturday.
Governor and Chief Ministers of the Northeastern states along with a large number of delegations of state governments and Central Ministries is present at the meeting which is scheduled to conclude on Sunday.
Shah, who arrived at Shillong on Saturday morning, was welcomed by Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K Sangma and other dignitaries of the state.
Taking to Twitter, Sangma wrote: “Welcomed Hon’ble Home Minister Sh. @AmitShah Ji with Hob’ble Union Minister of the State of @MDoNER_India, @DrJitendraSingh ji. The 69th Plenary of the Noarth Eastren Council is underway in #Shillong.”
The meeting will discuss the various developmental projects that are undergoing now and future plans of the entire North Eastern region.
All the state delegations are set to raise matters pertaining to implementation of Inner Liner Permit (ILP), inclusion of Khasi language in the Eight Schedule besides other issues of the state.
Meanwhile, security has been beefed up in Shillong in view of Shah’s visit. Police personnel are positioned at specific points on the route taken by the home minister.
Amit Shah, after attending the meetings in the city, will proceed to Assam for his election campaign in the state.
