    Amit Shah dials Assam CM as border tension with Mizoram increases

    Amit Shah inquired about the steps being taken by the state government to defuse tension along Assam-Mizoram border

    Guwahati: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday dialled up Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal to take stock of the present situation along the Assam-Mizoram border following the October 17 clash in which several persons were injured.

    Shah inquired about the steps being taken by the state government to defuse tension at the border and said that the home ministry has initiated steps for maintaining peace at the Assam-Mizoram border.

    Sonowal informed that senior-level government officials’ discussion to address the border issue has already begun.

    The Assam CM also informed Shah that his Mizoram counterpart Zoramthanga, during a telephonic conversation, assured him of positive steps for bolstering peace at the border and strengthening brotherhood among the people of both the states.

    It is also to be mentioned that, joint secretary of Union Home Ministry (North East) Satyendra Gard, who has visited Assam as per the direction of Amit Shah, held an important discussion at Silchar on Wednesday, which was attended by the commissioner and secretary in-charge of the home department of both the states.

    During the discussion, all border-related issue and steps required to maintain peace and law and order at the inter-state border was discussed thoroughly.

    Meanwhile, Sonowal has directed to ensure seamless movement of trucks and other vehicles through the inter-state border.
