Guwahati: The prime accused in the Charingia murder incident in Golaghat district was almost lynched by a mob on Saturday morning.

According to reports, accused Nazidul Hussain was produced before a court for a scheduled hearing, however, he was brutally assaulted by the public with kicks and fists blow.

Hussain sustained severe injuries on his head and was immediately shifted to Golaghat Swahid Kushal Konwar Civil Hospital for better treatment.

It is to be noted that Hussain was arrested by Golghat police on charges of murdering Nazidul Hussain, 28, of the same village.

Locals claimed that Hussain had allegedly entered the residence of Dipen Das (30) and stabbed him with a sharp weapon.

Das died on the spot, while, his wife Chumpi Das and son Priyam Das, both of whom were seriously injured in the attack were rushed to Jorhat Medical College and Hospital.

Following the incident, an agitated mob at Athkhelia Charingia village gheraoed the residence of Nazidul Hussain and set a broiler farm owned by Hussain on fire.

Later, demanding stringent punishment against the culprit, agitated locals staged a protest in front of the Golaghat Deputy Commissioner’s office by putting the body of the deceased on the road.
