Guwahati: The NIA Court on Monday granted the bail plea of anti-Citizenship (Amendment) Act protester and Satra Mukti Sangram Samiti (SMSS) executive president Manash Konwar.
Konwar was imprisoned in the 13/19 case of the Chandmari police station, here which was later shifted to the NIA.
The charge sheets were submitted against Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti leaders Akhil Gogoi, Dharya Konwar, Bitu Sonowal and SMSS executive president Manash Konwar in the same case.
One of the counsels of Konwar advocate Krishna Gogoi said, “We filed the bail petitions separately. Manash Konwar was granted bail today. However, hearing is Dharya konwar and Bitu Sonowal is scheduled for July 14 while the hearing for Akhil Gogoi is scheduled for July 16.”
Being overwhelmed with the Court’s granting, members of the SMSS thanked and acknowledged the Court and the lawyers. “We thank the people of Assam who extended solidarity, support and resisted the injustice,” the SMSS members said.
Konwar was represented in the Court by Senior advocates Jiyaur Kamar and Sahtanau Barthakur.
