Anti-CAA Stir: Curfew To Continue In Assam’s Tinsukia

Curfew was imposed in the district on December 21st, 2019

As the protests against the newly enacted Citizenship Amendment Act continue in Assam, the curfew will remain in force from 8 pm of December 22nd, 2019 to 5 am on December 23rd, 2019 in several parts in upper Assam’s Tinsukia district.

Curfew has not been completely withdrawn in the district keeping in view the possible attempts by miscreants to create unrest. However, the day curfew has been relaxed in the district.

The curfew was imposed in 10 districts of the state following the violent protests against the amended act.

The All Assam Students’ Union and 29 other supporting organizations have called for a sit-in demonstration against the act in Guwahati on December 23rd, 2019. The protest will be held at the Latasil playground.

In a press briefing on December 20th, 2019, the Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal had assured the people of the state that the government would not act against the interest of the people. He had also assured that the government would do everything to implement the clause 6 of the historic Assam Accord 1985.

Following the violent protests that started on December 11th, 2019 across the state, the internet services were also suspended. However, the broadband internet services were restored in the state on December 17th, 2019 and the mobile internet services were restored on December 20th, 2019.
